In this episode, we introduce who we are and why we named our podcast FUBAR. We, the hosts of the podcast FUBAR: Surviving Parenthood With Special Needs Kids, are Jessica and Lewis, full-time working parents with a preschooler and a toddler, both of whom have special needs. We started this podcast to help others find a nonjudgmental space to share what was going on in their lives, and to get the support they need, while raising children with special needs.
We named the show FUBAR (F$%& Up Beyond All Recognition), because that is how we feel as parents of children with special needs, compared to our old selves. We discuss how hurtful and dangerous some terms for “special needs” could be, and how there is no real consensus about what is a good term for having different needs.
